How Barbie Deals with Dying
Переглядів 1,1 тис.6 місяців тому
In the new Barbie movie (directed by Greta Gerwig), Barbie essentially explores what it means to be a human and, more specifically, what it means to experience the world as a woman in the 21st century. Death, radical freedom, discovering meaning, and authenticity are all core existential themes that the movie's storyline traverses.

You only need 40% of the population to be male for the world to function normally. So yeah, most of us are just canon fodder and worker ants. Such is life.

I find myself in complete opposition to the phrase "No darkness lasts forever." As the complete opposite is true; No light lasts forever. If you meant suffering, then use the word suffering.

I lost all respect for Mr Bourdain after i saw the interview where he said something along the lines of " white people need to be bred out by mixing with others" I can't stand racists! Why is it ok for the Jewish people to have their own country and other races not to have theirs?

I read a lot of the comments. Just thought I'd throw this out here. When you're a kid you do things hopefully because you like doing them. As you grow older, you do them because there's some sort of reward or there's something you get out of it. The more and more you do, the latter, the more and more you realize that life, as it stands, is basically an endless procession of doing the next thing that needs to be done. Because you have conditioned yourself to want a reward for doing things, you forget that most things don't come with a reward. If you condition yourself to this completely to the point where you only do things if you get a benefit out of them that is tangible such as money or power or status... There are very few people who can really attain impressive levels of money or power or status and once that sets in that you cannot be the thing you imagine will make you complete. It's very hard to get out of bed in the morning.

It is when the pain of living is greater than the fear of dying, then making such a decision may seem like the only solution.

Being a optimist is the real mental illness ( you are born randomly, to a flesh prison , then you work until you die , then your flesh prison requires constant food, shelter ect to live, and your flesh prison also degrades then you die so it’s pointless) but your supposed to be happy ……….like WTF

I just think guys just need to be told from a young age that u are 100% in control of ur life, that if u don’t take control it will spiral out and nothing will happen, certain other genders might not have to work as hard or may be given things without much effort, but as a dude if u want something u have to work for it, no one will hand u anything EVER, u want a good job work for it, u want a family u have to do the work for it

I have C-PTSD from my Army days, and have grappled with on-again/off-again suicidal ideation for nearly 15 years. This perspective is one of the most well rounded I've seen. "Fear of the flames" analogy is pretty accurate, at least for me. Everything I do feels like it's done in a vacuum. I finished a bachelor's degree and it just felt like I was going through motions. None of it was entirely uplifting for me mental health. Even now I'm considering graduate school almost a decade later, and it's simply because I wish to fill the time with something productive. It's not because I want or even need a master's, it's seen by me as purely a distraction from my own negative thoughts.

The mistake is depending on other people for your happiness. Depression is the default condition after everything that gives you joy in life is taken away, especially as you go past middle age. We need to look after own physical and mental health; find new joys and get out into the great outdoors as much as possible. Stay away from poisonous social media and people and get out of the house/apartment and refresh your mind. Keep in mind that our individual existence is a rare privilege indeed and don't waste it.

Thank you for trying to teach people about this. People have a really hard time understanding this topic if they've never been there themselves, and I hope this can help our mentally healthy friends navigate the unthinkable.

I understood why people do it... but its still selfish. Especially when you have people who depend on you. A husband and father can be vulnerable. But he cant be self destructive. You tear down not only your own life but stunt the lives of those around you. A man who jumps from a burning building can do nothing about the building burning. If youre a father or a husband or even a son who suffers stop for a moment and reflect; You cannot see the light and only darkness but to someone else you are their light in that darkness. Do not extinguish yourself. Do not harm yourself. You deserve better and there are people who depend on you and who love you. They deserve you too.

A woke group on my campus made the 'toxic male suicide shart' and every time the stats would go up they'd throw a party. And the university let them. Yes, you read that right. They'd actively celebrate men unaliving themselves and then university endorsed it by doing NOTHING. And yes they were fully aware. I despise that entire ideology and everyone that supports it with a burning hatred.

People who chastise the victims' selfishness do so to feel better about themselves and to not diminish their own sense of life's meaning. I guess they expect men to be too sexually preoccupied to be sensitive to such hypocrisy, after all hypocrisy is rampant and we're just bacon & eggs anyway.

Life is inherently terrible, all joy is just one massive cope. All pursuits are mere distractions from the horror of existence. People seek routines, relationships, and hobbies not just for their inherent enjoyment, but as a means to stave off the gnawing anxiety of existence. When shit life syndrome strikes, you lose the ability to afford anything that makes life comfortable. Same as people are willing to go through with painful suicide methods, I am willing to go through the pains of existance because I know I will finally reach my end either way. I am enduring a slow burn death of despair, taking my suicide in small doses. Each drink and every cigarette brings a fleeting sense of catharsis.

When I look back on my life I CAN say there are a number of Captain Jack Sparrow "haha yeah I did that" moments which take the edge off the long hard slog. And I've assessed and tracked every year of my life since I was in early grade school. Don't know if it's for everyone but I found there are long 20+ year cycles in contentment, but overall it averages out to zero, maybe slightly more, maybe slightly less depending on your individual ride. But all this to say despite the notable high moments, I didn't have to be here. If someone were to come to me and offer me this ride, would I take it? No. It's really not all that. The reason Mr. Turtleneck gives is kind of narrow. It doesn't have to be choosing the lesser of two terrors. Sometimes it's realizing you've peaked and it's all downhill from there. Maybe you've been sentenced to life and you're already past your time. Epstein may or may not have done it, but his ride was over. It's ENTIRELY plausible he just wasn't up for life in prison after living on a private island for much of his life. Maybe it's just not that good and you realize there's no way for it to get much better. Maybe you're just tired of it because it's kinda dumb and repetitive like a congressional hearing. Maybe you're getting to the last functional stage of your life and you don't want to be Biden -- a shitting burden on your friends and family. Maybe you're on your last dollar and it's the street from here on out. There's lots of legit reasons. If you can't imagine any, I envy the frame of mind you have, which is narrow and unimaginative. And I mean it because the stupid and unthinking are the least bothered by the realities of being here.

The numbers of people committing suicide isn't going up more than the population, the reason it looks like it kills so many is because everything else thats a danger to life get better/safer. Look at less developed parts of the world, the rate of suicide is the same yet no where near the top for causes of death. This is due to everything else being more dangerous.
